How Kaduna Electric collects, uses, and protects your personal information across all our platforms and services.

1. Scope & Acceptance

Welcome to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company ("Kaduna Electric", "we", "us", or "our"). We operate the primary utility services, online bill payment, and field-ops platforms. This Privacy Policy details our practices concerning the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information when you access our platforms, websites, apps, and services.

By registering for an account, purchasing energy tokens, accessing our ICT resources, or otherwise utilizing any of Kaduna Electric's services, you consent to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with these policies, please do not use our services.


2. Information We Collect

To provide efficient electricity distribution and management services, we collect several categories of information, including:

  • Account & Profile Information: Name, phone number, email address, physical address, Kaduna Electric account number, and meter details.
  • Billing & Transaction Records: Details of payments made, vending tokens generated, service history, and outstanding debts.
  • Usage Data & Logs: Information on how you use our applications, including IP address, access times, browser type, pages viewed, and device specifications.
  • Field Operations Data: Physical coordinates and logs collected by our field agents during meter readings, payment collections, and dispute resolution.

3. ICT Resources & Monitoring

Important Notice on ICT Resource Privacy

E-mail and user accounts and their contents are generally considered private by Kaduna Electric, but neither this policy nor present technology is able to guarantee security, privacy or confidentiality. It is not the routine policy of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company ICT Services staff to view or disclose the content of others' electronic files, but Kaduna Electric reserves the right, and may be legally required, to access, copy, examine, and/or disclose all files stored or transmitted on, across or through Kaduna Electric's ICT Resources, in a number of circumstances, including: for safety, security, and/or legal purposes; as needed to maintain or protect its personnel, facilities and not-for-profit status; as necessary to maintain network services; or in order to protect Kaduna Electric's rights or property. For these reasons, there should be no presumption of privacy or confidentiality concerning information stored on or transmitted across Kaduna Electric's ICT Resources.

All personnel, vendors, contractors, and users utilizing Kaduna Electric's ICT infrastructure (including corporate emails, networks, server systems, and cloud databases) must acknowledge that these systems are the sole property of Kaduna Electric. Standard logging and security scans are executed continuously to guard against malware, data exfiltration, and unauthorized system modifications.


4. Sensitive Information

Kaduna Electric handles sensitive customer, employee, and business data with extreme vigilance. Certain information (such as sensitive information regarding staff, vendor contracts, proprietary system codes, and high-value customer details) is protected by law, and persons with access to such information are expected to be aware of and comply fully with the laws protecting such information. Nothing in these Policies is intended to affect in any way the confidentiality or protection of such information.

We actively comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and other applicable regional regulations. Strict role-based access control (RBAC) is implemented throughout our enterprise systems, restricting access to sensitive employee and customer records only to verified personnel with a clear business necessity.


5. How We Use Your Data

The data collected is utilized solely to provide and improve Kaduna Electric utility operations. Key usage areas include:

  • Service Delivery: Setting up customer accounts, billing, processing prepaid/postpaid vending, and dispatching field agents for maintenance.
  • System Support: Communicating outage management schedules, logging CRM requests, and troubleshooting customer-reported issues.
  • Platform Analytics: Monitoring transaction trends, evaluating real-time field performance, and designing grid optimizations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Fulfilling auditing guidelines established by NERC (Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission) and security mandates.

6. Information Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. However, we may share information with trusted third parties to support operations:

  • Service Providers & Partners: Accredited payment gateways, STS vending facilitators, and technology vendors who operate parts of our CRM and ERP.
  • Legal & Regulatory Authorities: We disclose information when legally required to do so, such as in response to a court order, law enforcement inquiry, or NERC request.
  • Safety & Network Integrity: Sharing data as necessary to maintain the physical safety and cyber-security of our personnel, consumers, facilities, and network.

7. Information Security

We employ bank-level encryption (SSL/TLS) for all online transactions, payment portals, and customer logins. Hardware firewalls, database encryption, and security audit protocols are utilized to protect consumer records.

While we apply state-of-the-art protections, no transmission over the Internet or electronic storage can be guaranteed 100% secure. We encourage users to maintain secure password practices and immediately report any suspicious account activity.


8. Your Privacy Rights

Under Nigerian data protection laws, you possess legal rights regarding your personal data. These include:

  • Access: The right to request copies of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: The right to request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete information.
